About the Event

Date: Saturday, January 22, 2022

Time: 10:00am – 5:00 pm, times/numbers assigned upon registration.

Place: Mall of Abilene, the courtyard in front of Women’s Dillard’s.

  • All decades and genres of music encouraged!
  • Registration form and audition fee should be sent paid online.  If paying by cash/check, contact abileneidol@chorusabilene.org.
  • Registration form includes contact information, permission to use photos and recordings at auditions for publicity purposes.
  • Parents must sign consent forms for minors.
  • Contestants may bring a guitar or other handheld instrument; keyboard and amp will be provided by Chorus Abilene.
  • Use of a backup CD/MP3 encouraged; a cappella singing permissible for audition only.
  • CD/MP3 should be ready to play for contestant’s two (2) minute performance time.
  • Microphone & sound system provided.
  • Soloists and duos only; 10 soloists and 5 duos will be chosen from both the adult and junior categories for the Finales.
  • Performance time of two (2) minutes.
  • Consider your song carefully. You will perform the same song for the Finale, should you be chosen.

Ten soloists and five duos will be chosen in the adult category (16+), as well as ten soloists and five duos in the junior category (ages 6-15).  The finalists will be announced at the conclusion of auditions, after judges confer, at the Mall of Abilene. Finalists will have an additional release/agreement form.

  • All finalists agree to perform at the Finale (juniors at 3pm, adults at 7pm on 02/12) and be timely with paperwork and headshot appearance. Finalists must also agree to do their best to raise at least $1,000 via votes or sponsorships.
  • Finalists will perform the same song with which they auditioned.

Scoring of the Feb. 12th Finale performances will be composed of three components:

  • Contestants may solicit an unlimited number of $1 “pre-votes” (20% of the total vote) with a cut-off at 1:00 PM, Friday, Feb. 11th.
  • Audience members on Feb. 12th will have one text vote per phone (20%).
  • A three-judge panel will render a consensus opinion (60%).
  • Date/time: Saturday, Feb. 12, 3:00PM for Junior Finale, 7:00 PM for Adult Finale.
  • Place: Abilene Convention Center. Tickets: $15 general admission, $10 students/seniors/military.
  • Sound check: Juniors on 02/11 @6-8PM; Adults on02/12 @ 10 AM-noon.
  • Adult solo winners receive $500 for First Place; $400 for Second Place; $300 for Third Place.
  • Adult duo winners will split a prize of $600 for First Place; $500 for Second Place; $400 for Third Place.
  • Junior solo winners receive $300 for First Place; $200 for Second Place; $100 for Third Place.
  • Junior duo winners will split $400 for First Place; $300 for Second Place; $200 for Third Place.
  • Adult and junior winners agree to perform for the 2023 Abilene Idol Finale and the adult solo winner agrees to judge 2023 Auditions.
